I feel like Little Debbie Oatmeal Creme Pies © are part of the collective childhood memories of, well…everyone. It turns out the original company that produces them was founded in 1928. As people get older they seem to become more cynical about the well-loved, pre-packaged, trans-fatty “snack” foods that typically populated every elementary lunch box. Maybe people feel somehow ashamed or immature admitting that they still love Twinkies and Ho-Hos and those rolls with the swirly cream fillings. I would actually recommend checking out the Hostess and Little Debbie sites to get the full nostalgia effect. Also, anybody remember Dunkaroos? Those were the best.
Anyway, if you have a hankering for a cream (creme??) pie, but feel self-conscious about people “judging” you for tearing into a Little Debbie pack, you can always make your own. These turned out…a little bigger than I was expecting. If you are ready to go all in for some full force snacking, then by all means have the whole thing. Otherwise, they can easily be shared with a friend (pssht). Also, you could probably make more (smaller) cookies than the recipe says it will make.
